Creative RSVP cards

What is my favorite part of designing an invitation? The RSVP card! This is a place where you can get really creative, and also tie in your theme! Today, I will feature two of my favorite RSVP cards from recent clients.

This RSVP was for a video game themed Bar Mitzvah. We played around with the wording of this card to make it seem like the guest was actually playing a video game and not filling out a RSVP! Adding the graphic of the Wii remote helped tie in the theme even further.

This fun RSVP was for a Willy Wonka themed party. We put the oompa loompas on there, and created a cute little rhyme reminiscent of the oompa loompa songs from the movie.

So when it comes to RSVP cards, let your imagination and creativity run wild! Anything goes!

We've Been Featured as "Mitzvah Planning Experts" by FAB*Blog!

We are so excited to have been selected by FAB*Blog as their featured interview this week! Here's a snippet of the blog entry. To read the full blog posting, please visit FAB*blog!

Today, I am excited to bring you an interview with Laura Cohn and Debbie Mintzer from Party Perfect, based in Orlando, Florida. These ladies are pros at creating truly unforgettable Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. From pre-planning to reception, and everywhere in between, they've got it all covered and it's sure to be a wonderfully special event. They had lots to tell us about Mitzvah planning and how they go about making each party perfect!

Personalization: Do your clients often come to you with their own theme or ideas? What’s the most important element of the party to them- the food, the music, the venue? Most often, our clients do have an idea of their own theme, but sometimes they look to us for guidance on the best and most cost-effective ways to incorporate this theme into their event. Personalizing and branding the Bar/Bat Mitzvah is what we feel is our specialty. We create a party logo for our clients that we carry throughout the party: custom menus, DJ splash screens, place cards, favors, signage, and so many other details that make the party extra special and help convey the party theme.

Invitations: How do you choose them and what are important things to remember about invites? We look for an invitation that is unique and represents the individual style, color, and thematic elements of the event. For Mitzvahs, this presents a challenge, because there are so many unique elements to a Mitzvah invitation (the religious service invitation, the party invitation, info for kids vs. adults, RSVP, etc).

How to Make a "Green" Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Check out this great piece from PBS all about how a mom made an eco-friendly Bar Mitzvah for her son. Here is an excerpt from the video:

"ANNA HACKMAN (Bar Mitzvah Mother and Editor, GreenTalk.com):

This is my third bar mitzvah—I have four sons—and I took a look at this bar mitzvah for more of a carbon footprint, like what was I doing that was impacting the Earth, that I could make a difference?

One of the most important parts is the tallis. It’s something that he wears during the service. It’s something he’s going to have his whole lifetime. It’s made out of organic cotton. It was hand-woven, and it symbolizes things about him, and his yarmulke was made by Guatemalan women that actually are paid fair-trade wages, and these wages help support their families. The other yarmulkes, I had them made out of hemp, and they’re all lined with organic cotton.

At the service there’s a program. It’s all made out of 100 percent recycled paper. The invitation’s a Web site with places for people to RSVP. It’s got pictures of Jacob. It’s got polls and quizzes, and the best thing is there’s no paper being used. There’s nobody mailing things back and forth to me. On the invitation, I put a note on the bottom to please try and carpool to cut down on the consumption of natural resources.

The theme is a movie theme, so what I did is I went and bought used DVDs as place markers for everybody to pick up when they come and look for their tables, so it’s something that they could take home and watch. They’re not going to throw it in the trash like a little paper, you know, place card.

We chose to put on the tables soy candles that are a renewable source, and they burn much cleaner. There’s not toxic chemicals coming from, like, wax candles. The centerpieces are actual plants that are going to be planted in my garden. I made sure that they were ones that would live, so nothing’s wasted. We’re serving three different meals. Everything was sourced either locally or was and/or organic. The leftover food is composted, or the balance of the food is donated to a food pantry. The dress that you can see that I’m wearing, it’s a consignment dress. People wear dresses once for bar mitzvahs, and to me it’s senseless. My goal to make this bar mitzvah greener is to let the world know that they can do it, being able to take my religion and say yeah, I’m part of that. It’s just another connection for me that makes me feel more vibrant as a Jew."

Mayaworks: Kippot that are hand-crocheted by Guatemalan women. The proceeds to go help these women buy food and provide healthcare and schooling for their families.

Myevent.com Myevent.com is a service that allows your guests to login and RSVP online--eliminating the paper from RSVP cards! They have templates especially designed for Bar/Bat Mitzvahs--with a variety of themes and colors to choose from. Also a great way to provide lots of information to your guests!

Photofetti Save the Date!

When I saw this wedding save the date idea on Creature Comforts, I immediately thought this would be perfect for a bar/bat mitzvah if you replaced the confetti with photofetti!

Here are the resources you'd need for this project:

1. Vellum envelopes at a place like Paper and More

2. Photo confetti from Photofetti

3. Custom rubber stamp from The Rubber Press on Etsy

Here are some sample stamps from The Rubber Press:

Simply stamp your personalized save the date info on your vellum envelope (let dry for at least 24 hours because vellum has a waxy surface that ink takes a while to absorb into). Fill with your custom ordered  photofetti and mail to your excited guests! How adorable!!

Simpsons Postage Stamps

I'm a huge fan of the Simpsons, so I'm really excited that these great postage stamps will be released on May 7th! I can see these adding lots of fun to envelopes of future Bar/Bat Mitzvah invitations, save the dates, etc!

“This is the biggest and most adhesive honor The Simpsons has ever received,” said Matt Groening, creator and executive producer of The Simpsons.

Many of us don't have the budget for expensive invitations for our upcoming simchas. However, that doesn't mean you can't produce a beautiful invitation inexpensively! Here are some FREE downloads from Weddingchicks.com that would work beautifully for a Bat Mitzvah invitation:

The moment I saw this invitation, I thought it would be the BEST way to invite guests to a real groovy disco-themed (or music-themed) Bat/Bar Mitzvah! The invitation is actually printed on the label of a real vinyl record! I think it's the cutest thing ever! Give it a spin!

Personalized Illustrated Invitations

If you are looking for an invitation or save the date that is TOTALLY unique and extra adorable, visit the website of talented designer Sara at Stinkerpants Designs. I just fell in love with her illustrations, and her wonderful sense of design and color! Her drawings just seem lend themselves to the spirit of Bar/Bat Mitzvah invitations and save the date cards...  These custom illustrations can convey the child's personality with whatever background or activity you wish (or they can be drawn to match the theme of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah as well)! She says she can even draw them doing whatever they chose to do for their Tikkun Olam project! What a wonderful, fun, and personal way to announce such a special occasion! Sara will create a custom drawing and you would get limited rights to print the design for your Bat/Bar Mitzvah items. This one drawing can be used for so many things, such as water bottle labels, sign-in board, place cards, favor tags, programs, you name it!
