Great Mitzvah Gift: Custom Mitzvah Memory Box

It is a wooden painted box, designed to hold all the special memories of the day, including things such as the program, d'var torah speech, invitation, kippah, and other little tokens. My favorite part of this box is that the top can be customized with your own invitation! I scanned in the invitation, emailed to Lexington Studios, and got a proof later the same day! When the box arrived, it looked even better than I had imagined--gorgeous quality. The invitation looks incredible on there--it looks like it was handpainted and part of the original artwork.  Inside the box, there is a painting of a card that says "Mazel Tov on becoming a Bar Mitzvah". The family loved this special gift, and have already filled it with many items that will be treasured for years to come.

Jewish Board Games: Apples to Apples

If you are looking for a fun gift for a Bar/Bat Mitzvah boy/girl or if you are starting to search for family Hanukkah gifts, take a look at the Jewish version of Apples to Apples! We play this game with my daughters all the time, and it just never gets old. It's wonderful because it is fun for all ages and so easy to play. The way the game works, is that a card is chosen (e.g., the card might say "delicious). Then everyone looks through their hand of cards and chooses the card that seems the most delicious (like "chicken soup", etc.). If your card is chosen as the most delicious out of all of the cards put out, then you get a point. The funny part starts when you don't really have anything delicious in your hand, so you might choose a card that says "putz" and try to convince everyone why a putz is delicious. Shutterfly Photo Album

My daughter's Bat Mitzvah was WAY back in April, and I have finally gotten around to making an album on Shutterfly with all my digital pictures from my photographer. They have the most beautiful 12x12 inch books, with glossy covers and a huge variety of layouts and background colors and patterns.  I ended up doing an 80 page book (I liked all my pix--I couldn't help it!), and it ran about $110 (including the 20% discount now available on Shutterfly). I'm giving it to my mom for Hanukkah (it only takes only a week and a half to receive the book). So if you want to try making your Bat/Bar Mitzvah album yourself (or making one for a relative), you may want to give Shutterfly a try!
