What to put in the out-of-towner bags?
Friday, July 13, 2007 at 9:23AM Do you want to put a nice bag together for your out-of-town guests, but are stumped about how to fill it? Here are some wonderful suggestions:
1. Buy at Costco or Sams' Club: Water bottles (option: add personalized labels), mints, chewing gum, candy, invidually wrapped gourment cookies, trail mix (put smaller amounts in individual cellophane bags tied with ribbon)
2. Local bakery: ask them to bake mini-challahs for your bags. These are a really cute addition.
3. Local Jewish paper: get enough copies of the local Jewish paper with your Bat/Bar Mitzvah announcement inside. Roll it up, tie with ribbon, and put a sticker on to direct them to the page of the announcement.
4. Maps: include maps, addresses, and times for the Friday night dinner, service, reception, and Sunday brunch if applicable.
5. Thank you note: a handwritten thank you note from the Bat/Bar Mitzvah child is a nice touch. Example: Dear Aunt Gertrude: Thank you so much for coming all the way from California for my Bat Mitzvah celebration. Enjoy this bag of goodies, and I hope you have lots of fun this weekend. I love you! Love, Rachel
6. Local food: do you have a favorite local food? Buy some and divide it up into smaller cellophane bags for each guest bag (example: I went to the local farmer's market to buy my favorite kettle corn and placed about 2 cups in individual bags in my guest bags).
7. Design-her-gals door hanger: Sign up for the "Print-at-Home" option at Designhergals.com. They have a cute door hanger layout. Adorn it with a designhergal that looks like the Bat Mitzvah girl, and write "Do Not Disturb! I'm getting ready for ______'s Bat Mitzvah!"
