Recession-Proof Cake

Want a recession-proof idea to create an adorable cake for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah? If you don't have the funds to pay a baker for some of the gorgeous creations that I've featured here, then consider this easy and inexpensive way to get a custom cake to fit your theme. The cake below cost $35.00 from my local Publix (it was created for an ophthalmologist's 45th birthday). Simply create a graphic or use the logo from your event, if you have one. Print it out and bring it to the bakery. Tell them to print your graphic on an edible icing sheet (this is the same process they use to put photos onto cakes). They can either cover the entire top of the cake with the graphic (as I did below), or the graphic can be framed out with icing and cover only a part of the top of the cake. In these tough economic times, this is a cute way to get a custom look without spending a fortune!!
