Custom Card Box
Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at 10:40PM I made this pink and green card box for my friend's daughter's similarly color-schemed Bat Mitzvah. My friend and her daughter just loved it. For those who may not be familiar, this is a decor item that is placed on the gift table, which will hold your guests' cards and keep them safe. Just a note: I've heard some sad stories about gifts being stolen at parties, so make sure your gift table is in full view during the evening (e.g., do not put it out in a hallway where an unobserved person may have access to it ).
How can you make one of these boxes? Purchase three boxes of similar shape but of differing sizes (I bought these nesting boxes at Costco). Wrap the bottom of each box with wrapping paper (I used silver metallic). I wrapped the top of the middle box with a contrasting pink paper. Then embellish with coordinating ribbon, paper, and stickers (I purchased these supplies at Joann's and Michael's). Glue the boxes to each other with hot glue. Cut a hole in the bottom box with an exacto knife or box cutter, and glue a ribbon or border around the hole to finish it off. Then you will end up with a beautiful item to put on the gift table, and a handy place to store all those gift envelopes. To open, simply slide the top up off the bottom box.

This is a photo of the card box I made for my daughter, Rachel:
